Our firm was engaged by the Army's HQ CIO's office to evaluate the web portal for their IT architects for usability.
When the project was completed, the Major we supported asked us an interesting question...

We were a bit naïve about how the military organizations operated at the time. We didn’t understand what Tech Refresh even was. So after a brief explanation, we reviewed the list and suggested eliminating most of the items.

"Why do you need all these hard drives??""

"Well, they keep blowing up", the Major responded

"What? Hard drives don’t just blow up."

As a result of this conversation, minimal funds were used for the technical refresh and they were invested in our firm to provide enterprise architecture and data center consulting. As the Federal Data Center Consolidation began in 2010, we became the lead strategist to their consolidation and optimization efforts.
